This year’s celebration of the Odwira festival coincides with the “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” celebrations, which marks 400 years since the first enslaved Africans arrived in Jamestown Virginia.
Informally launching the “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” last year, Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo said,
“We know of the extraordinary achievements and contributions they [Africans in the diaspora] made to the lives of the Americans, and it is important that in this symbolic year, we commemorate their existence and their sacrifices.”
He also made a renewed call for the quest unification of Africans on the continent with their brothers and sisters in the diaspora. The Year of Return is therefore the perfect time to experience Odwira Festival in all its unique cultural splendor; to come home for an unlimited cultural experience with the people of Okuapemman.
